What comes to your mind when hear the word cancer? Certainly the show is something terrifying and horrific disease hope it never happens to you or someone you care about.

Yuliana, a grandmother who has one child, is one of the many people who never expected that she will have cancer.

Yes, all originated from ignorance about the disease that she suffered. 57-year-old woman had experienced a fairly severe inner struggle to face the pain attack. Unexpectedly, he was convicted of colorectal cancer, or better known as colon cancer.

Colorectal cancer is the third largest in the world in terms of number of patients and a second cancer in causing death. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 700,000 people die each year from cancer, which means 200 people die every day.


Mistaken for hemorrhoids

Yuliana story, at first he never felt there was a discrepancy in her. Until finally, he felt a pain in the abdomen and bleeding when defecating.

Yuliana decided immediately went to the doctor, but got there the doctor refers Yuliana for treatment at one private hospital. At the hospital, Yuliana taken to the local doctor in internal medicine and claimed he was suffering from hemorrhoids.

Nearly half of the year, precisely in 1995, Yuliana not know that he contracted colon cancer. Because he knows, the pain limited to bowel problems.

In 1996, Juliana finally sentenced to a doctor for surgery because of disease wasirnya. Even so, Yuliana still refused surgery. Until finally he decided to seek treatment to a private hospital in Kelapa Gading.

That's where the truth will be revealed disease. After the biopsy, then caught himself was affected by colorectal cancers. Worse, the cancer suffered by Juliana was already at stage II.

Without specific symptoms

According to Paul Simadibrata, specialist in internal medicine from Siloam Hospital in Jakarta, in the early stages, colorectal cancer did not show specific symptoms. Most colorectal cancer begins with malignant cell growth (adenoma), in which polyps form in the early stages (warts).

Polyps can be removed easily, but often did not show any symptoms so it is not detected in a relatively long time, and in certain conditions has the potential to become cancerous.

In subsequent developments, the symptoms of colorectal cancer may emerge more clearly. Symptoms such as bleeding in the colon is marked by the discovery of blood in the stool, changes in bowel habits, weight loss for no apparent reason, pain in the abdomen or the back, and stomach still feels full even have a bowel movement.

"Early detection is one good way of prevention," says Dr. Paul.

Refusing surgery

Although already know the threat of danger from the disease, Yuliana once again had refused to undergo surgery. "I do not want surgery. I drink all kinds of potions. But, it did not last long. Pas me in my office, I was bleeding and was rushed to hospital and was sentenced to be operating," he said.

Just in July 1996, Yuliana eventually underwent surgery. "At that moment, I do not know what will happen with me. Really, really do not know," he said.

Only motivation to stay alive that Juliana had at that time. Women's status as a single parent with a dependent one girl was admitted just surrender and submit to the Creator.

Luckily for Yuliana because the operation went smoothly. However, postoperatively, he was amazed that in the stomach had a hole (stoma) that connects with the bag (colostomy bag).

"I just realized the cancer was already close to the anus. The bag was apparently as a place to defecate channel," said Juliana.

Knowing he was no longer perfect like most other people, Yuliana stay motivated and never the slightest feeling of inferiority.

"If people see you do not feel inferior. Why we are thinking about people, we are happy aja, enjoy, and do not stress. On average, patients like me humble. If I Bodo so, want to wear jeans, let's swim," he concluded.

Until now, Yuliana active role in social activities at YKI (Indonesia Cancer Foundation) as auxiliary power since two years ago. Almost every day, this woman spent time helping distribute colostomy bag and urostomy bags for the needy.

Not infrequently Yuliana also shared his experience to the patient who suffered a similar fate. Motivation and encouragement he always gave to the people who suffer from this deadly disease.
